So that’s what a Japanese hearse looks like...

Is it bad that I kind of want to go camping in it?

This 1992 JDM  Patrol for sale looks a bit like a hearse if you squint at it.

There's one for sale in Maryland I've been tempted to go check out, but, not a wise use of money at present.

Some still use “traditional” styled hearses, but plenty of them also look like your average hearse.

Here’ s a more modern Century Hearse

Incidentally, elaborately carved wood bodied hearses used to be a thing in Western cultures, as well, but largely faded out after WWI.

I’ve been highly intrigued by these since I first learned about them a few years back (right on Duncan’s site too!).

I already told my wife my final wishes will be for her to use part of my life insurance to pick one of these up :)

Yep, that’s what they look like. Most people are prepped at the home and then taken for the ceremony. Your family picks your bone fragments out of the ashes with chopsticks and puts them in the urn. I’ve done it twice.

So... It would be in poor taste to go camping in one?

That’s certainly an epic way to leave this earth... I still want my final ride to be in the Jaaaaaaag E-type hearse:

It’s not very big in there, you could lay down but not much room from what I saw.

Warm take: that in ute form would be kinda awesome.

I suppose if they’re mostly dealing with cremations, it doesn’t have to be very large... Very ornate, though.

Oh the hearse is to bring the body to where they cremate them and do the ceremony so it has to fit a single person. It’s Japan so the inside is probably nice too.

I’ve seen a couple of these (not in person), which is odd because of all the Asian imports that float past my screen, this one comes up surprisingly frequently... maybe because it’s close to a wagon?

Regardless, it’s excellent craftsmanship . I wouldn’t mind being driven around in one of these, dead or alive.
